Models Don't Lie

Models have become a critical aspect of our workflow over the years, as can be seen by the amount of ‘mini’ houses that are now dotted around our studio, proudly displayed in the homes of our clients and on the shelves of various planning departments around the country.

These models are in effect much smaller versions of the real thing. It’s interesting to think about the validity of the architectural model when compared to say a 2d orthographic drawing such as a simple elevation. These abstract drawings devoid of any perspective don’t even come close to portraying the 3d physical reality of the building in space and time.

The true beauty of these little artefacts of exploration, these studies of dreams, is that they don’t lie. They simply portray themselves - unadorned and unrelenting and unforgiving by simply being present in the world.

Our models aren’t phenomenological representations of atmospheres of literal interpretations of materiality. Our models exist to simply be in the world - to be observed as abstract platonic representations of the emotion to come.
