Facade Play

“My destination is no longer a place, rather a new way of seeing.”
– Marcel Proust

Just like skin, the facade of a building plays an important role in the visual identity of a home. It is both the first aesthetic judgment of the building and the most memorable.

The ideal facade for a home is a subconscious extension of your metaphysical self and expresses ‘a new way of seeing’. A carefully crafted facade is never just an outcome of the space within it but rather a collage of meanings and conversations in balance. An expression of life, history, culture within the universal themes of proportion and geometry.

Key to the development of the homes we make is a deep interrogation of the architectural facade, both as an expression of a cohesive structural language and as a form of visual pragmatism.

The image above represents the side facade of Utsuroi House, located in Wiltshire – one of our latest projects to receive planning. Here we explored the nature of the facade as a complex layering system of openings for views and light. Angled shields for privacy, shading and landscape focus. Rain screens and overhangs harmoniously protect from solar-gain and rain.

This complex weaving of elements creates a building tectonic that provides endless possibilities of emotion and experience.. The facade considers your circumstances, responds and reassures - through impactful and confident solutions.

Most of all, the facade is never designed. It is revealed gradually, through endless iterations and manifestations of potential.
