Body and Form
“Without an architecture of our own we have no soul of our own civilisation.”
― Frank Lloyd Wright
Each day in the studio we push boundary and form to its limit, so it’s no wonder we look to our own body to help balance the forces of daily life.
Crafting building through emotion has awakened us to the meaning of ‘home’. Every day we draw and make with heart to create spaces that enable our clients to thrive. Yet whilst we’re busy crafting other people’s homes, it's easy to neglect our own biological home – our body. So how do we ensure we balance the making of external homes with the nurturing our internal ones? Well, we found yoga.
Yoga is the home of balance, body and form. It’s far more than just mediation for the spirit. Instead, it places us in conversation with the universe. As we swap our design studio for yoga studio, we enter a world where the ‘home’ we have to build is our body. For us, yoga is the space to make us whole again – to strengthen and rebuild our biological frame. Whatever the events of the day past, yoga enables us to realign our balance and connection to our world.
Through gentle movement, we slowly release the mind. Earthed by our bare feet, our toes lightly touch the floor and we enter a rhythm that leads us to a place of composure and peace. Noise, deadlines and expectation still remain, but they are temporarily shut out. For now, yoga is about you and only you – the rest of the world can wait.
Space, matter, gravity, emotion – it’s all loaded within yoga. With the demands of modern life, thoughts can ruminate and run wild. Yoga, however, teaches us to listen but not dwell. The practice immerses you in the moment – the ‘now’ we often oversee. There is nowhere to look other than within – ego is left at the door.
We are all architects of our own lives and yoga brings us back to this notion. Take time out. Sit on the floor, close your eyes and breathe – the universe has got you.
