Analogue + Digital Tools

Drawing Analogue + Digital

We live in a remarkable time where we can marry the haptic joy of analogue drawing on paper with the digital efficiency of vector lines penned on a tablet.

The balance here is between the efficiency and magic of drawing on an iPad, versus the natural and motivating force felt when drawing on paper. We find this balance perfect for the way we make buildings. It allows us to jump spontaneously into different media to express ideas, whether it's in the studio, at home, or out in the field.

Drawing on Glass + Paper

Drawing on glass and on paper is something that has developed invisibly in our studio over the years. We enjoy having both options in our armoury.

On a recent site visit to Sintra, in Portugal - we came with these mobile platforms of paper and glass for drawing.  Having both portable mediums to hand, a detail paper roll and iPad thrown in our Tote allows us to work anywhere in the world and still be connected to our studio.

Most importantly the deep flow that we seek can remain unbroken with these digital and analogue tools. Allowing our team to do their best work - anywhere.

Perhaps there is some truth to the idea that you create your own universe as you go along, or at least keep refining your workflow and your tools - so that the process of making architecture is effortless.

When these things are tuned - deep flow is possible…
