We’ve been approached to design a new home in Mid Wales, UK, imbued with simple volumetric presence, natural materials and a soft minimalism.
Looking to simplify life and strip back experience to its most elemental - Portal House will look out from a wooded hillside over a small secluded cove and out towards an infinite sea.
This will be a new zero energy home for a small family. A place to make memories, and find solitude. The home will establish an authentic sequence of carefully considered spaces for life, primarily orientated towards the sea.
Architectural elements expressed in drawing
Servant: Core or ancillary support spaces that provide the functions for primary spaces.
Living: An open plan ‘stage' for life to play out.
Portal: The magic threshold. A place to dream. The interstitial space between two worlds provides shelter and shade, privacy and seclusion.
Storm. A place to take refuge and contemplate the bigger questions and the natural order of things.
