Petrichor House - Updates From The North

Volume up + press play

Last week we visited Petrichor House, currently under construction in a remote part of North Wales. The weather varied from moment to moment, from blazing sun to short thunderous downpours. These conditions were so fitting for a home designed around the turbulent weather systems of this region.

In this short reel, we share moments from this remarkable region. The site and the construction progress, in sun and rain.

The home itself is arranged around a central courtyard and has an ordered façade to exude a feeling of timelessness. Slate columns will play rhythmically around the facade providing shelter from the wind.

A portico steel rain canopy wraps around the exterior of the building providing shelter and a place for our clients to follow the sun throughout the day. A cedar ‘crown’ cloaks the house at roof level, providing first-floor outdoor space.

The home presents a phenomenological system that harnesses water from the sky as part of its natural condition and geographical position.

It is a home that comes alive with the sounds of active water flowing over planes of steel, through channels – feeding the garden beyond.

Working closely with our clients, Petrichor House is an attempt to deepen our connection to the natural world and present new ideas about our relationship with nature.

Petrichor: The sweetest smell in the air after rainfall.
