Edge House Model

Models are a critical part of our workflow and help us test ideas.

Here we share some thoughts from our studio on the making of Edge House model - a home now complete, precariously positioned near the edge of a sheer granite cliff, on the edge of West Wales UK.

Drawing is like second hand thought. It’s incredibly intuitive as a medium to express ideas, although drawing never seems quite capable of capturing the chaos of physical reality, complete with all the inevitable conflicts, contradictions and juxtapositions in making architecture.

Architecture Models on the other hand are artefacts that exist in the world and provide haptic feedback that helps improve and refine our assumptions.

Models can be metaphysical objects to be explored, interrogated and understood. This difference may be subtle but has a big impact on our understanding of the buildings we make for our clients.
